It involves injecting the active substance directly into the joint (so-called intra-articular). This procedure is used to relieve pain, improve mobility and slow down degenerative changes in various joint diseases, most commonly osteoarthritis.

  • Corticosteroids – strong anti-inflammatory substances suitable for inflammation and significant pain
  • Hyaluronic acid (so-called "joint nutrition") – helps lubricate and protect cartilage, especially in osteoarthritis
  • PRP (platelet-rich plasma) – biological treatment from the patient's own blood, supports regeneration
  • Collagen injections – additional therapy for degenerative changes
  • Local anesthetics – short-term anesthesia, e.g. during diagnostics or acute pain

  • For osteoarthritis (especially of the knee and hip joints)
  • For inflammatory joint diseases
  • After injuries (e.g. inflammation of the soft tissues around the joint)
  • For pain in tendon attachments or bursitis
  • If conventional medication and physiotherapy do not work

  • Mild pain, swelling or redness at the injection site
  • Temporary worsening of symptoms (especially after corticosteroids or PRP)
  • Rarely, infection or allergic reaction

The procedure may be slightly uncomfortable, but only lasts a few seconds. If necessary, local anesthesia can be used or the injection can be given under ultrasound guidance.

Yes, but it is recommended:

  • Rest for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid heavy physical exertion, sports or prolonged walking

If there is more swelling or pain, contact a doctor.

It depends on the type of substance and the severity of the problem:

  • Corticoids – usually 1–3 applications per year into one joint
  • Hyaluronic acid – 1–5 injections, often at weekly intervals
  • PRP – usually 1–3 injections several weeks apart

  • Corticosteroids – relief can occur within 24–48 hours
  • Hyaluronic acid – effect occurs more slowly, usually after several days to weeks
  • PRP and collagen – effect occurs gradually, but can be long-lasting
