What do warts look like?

• They are rough, calloused growths on the skin.
• They can be solitary or appear in clusters.
• Those on the soles of the feet are painful when walking (known as plantar warts).
• Those on the hands and face are more of a cosmetic problem.
• Genital warts (condylomata) require special medical care.

How are they transmitted?

Warts are highly contagious – the HPV virus spreads:

• through direct skin-to-skin contact,
• in environments with higher humidity (swimming pools, showers, saunas),
• through the use of shared towels, shoes, or tools.

Warts can be treated using various methods – the choice depends on their size, location, and type:

• Cryotherapy – removal by freezing with liquid nitrogen.
• Laser treatment – a quick and gentle method that destroys the lesion and minimizes bleeding.
