Soft tissue ultrasound
Soft tissue ultrasound is a simple, non-invasive, and painless examination that allows a doctor to visualize muscles, tendons, subcutaneous fat, skin, nodules, or masses in soft tissues. It is most often used to evaluate pain, swelling, lumps, or injuries in various parts of the body.

Preparing for the examination
No special preparation is required for a soft tissue ultrasound.
- You can eat and drink normally.
- If possible, we recommend not applying creams or oils to the area of the body.
- Bring your doctor's recommendation (if you have one) and any previous findings (e.g. histology, X-ray, MRI, description of the injury).

Ultrasound helps to determine:
- the origin of local swelling, pain or induration
- inflammation sites, abscesses, hematomas
- soft tissue tumors (lipomas, fibromas, neurofibromas, etc.)
- enlarged lymph nodes
- muscle ruptures, stretched tendons or hematomas after injuries
- condition of soft tissues around joints or implants
- foreign bodies in the subcutaneous tissue (e.g. splinters, glass, metal)
The examination is very beneficial for diagnosing surface formations, especially those that the patient has felt himself - such as lumps, nodules or skin changes.
The examination is appropriate if:
- you have a lump under the skin (e.g. lipoma, cyst)
- you have an enlarged or painful lymph node
- you have a swollen or red areayou have an injury to a soft part of the body (strained muscle, laceration, bruise)
- you have a painful area of unclear origin (shoulder, groin, arm, thigh, abdomen, neck, etc.)
- your doctor needs to evaluate a change in the scar or tissue after surgery

The patient reveals the relevant area of the body.

The doctor applies ultrasound gel to the skin.

The probe moves over the examined area and monitors the image on the monitor.

The structure, size and vascular supply of the found formations are assessed.

If necessary, the doctor takes pictures or recommends further examinations.
Duration of the examination: approximately 10–20 minutes. Painless, no need for hospitalization.
