How can you recognize skin fungus?

Typical symptoms include:

• itching and burning of the skin,
• red or scaly patches,
• peeling skin,
• cracks between the fingers,
• rashes or blisters,
• spreading of patches to surrounding areas.

Fungal infections most commonly occur on the feet ("athlete's foot"), in skin folds, on the nails, but also in the hair.

Causes of fungal infections

• hot and humid environments (saunas, swimming pools, communal showers),
• excessive sweating,
• wearing tight shoes or synthetic clothing,
• a weakened immune system,

If a fungal infection is suspected, we perform a clinical examination and, if necessary, a laboratory test (skin swab). Based on the results, we recommend:

• local treatment – antifungal creams, gels, sprays, or solutions,
• systemic treatment – tablets for more extensive or recurrent infections,
• laser therapy – a modern method that destroys fungi in the skin and nails,
• prevention recommendations – hygiene measures, appropriate footwear, and clothing.
