A lipoma is a benign tumor of fatty tissue that grows slowly and is soft, elastic, and usually painless. However, in some cases, it can enlarge, cause pressure on surrounding tissues, or be tender.
If the lipoma is removed along with the capsule, the risk of it coming back is minimal. However, in some cases, lipomas can form in other places.
- The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia
- The surgeon makes a small incision at the site of the formation, releases the lipoma and completely removes it, including the capsule, to minimize the risk of recurrence
- The wound is carefully sutured and covered with a sterile dressing
- The entire procedure usually takes 20–40 minutes, depending on the size and location of the lipoma
Advantages of the procedure:
- Fast and safe outpatient procedure
- Possibility of histological examination of the removed formation
- Aesthetic incision guidance and precise closure, minimizing the visibility of the scar
- Immediate return to normal routine (with the exception of physical exertion)
Lipoma removal is suitable for anyone who is concerned about:
- the cosmetic appearance of the fatty mass,
- pressure or soreness in the area,
- rapid growth of the lipoma or uncertainty about its nature.
The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia, so it is completely painless. After the procedure, you may feel slight pressure or sensitivity at the site of the procedure, which will quickly subside.
