What is a rash?

A rash is a visible change on the skin that can take many forms, from small red pimples to large scaly or weeping patches. It is often accompanied by itching, burning, swelling, or pain. Sometimes it is a short-term and harmless problem, but other times it can be a symptom of a more serious illness, so it is always important to find out the cause.

What does the rash look like?

The appearance of the rash varies depending on the cause:

• weeping or blistering,
