Pediatric ultrasound

Pediatric ultrasound is a safe, painless and non-invasive examination for infants, children and adolescents. It allows for a quick and gentle assessment of internal organs and soft tissues without any radiation exposure.

At the Vasmedic clinic, pediatric ultrasound examinations are performed by experienced doctors with a sensitive approach to young patients and their parents.

Why choose ultrasound for children

Ultrasound is the ideal imaging method for children because:

  • it is completely safe (no ionizing radiation),
  • it is quick and painless,
  • it does not require anesthesia or hospitalization,
  • it provides immediate results,
  • it is also suitable for repeated follow-up examinations.

What can be examined with pediatric ultrasound

Depending on the child's symptoms and age, we mainly perform:

  • abdominal ultrasound (liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder),
  • ultrasound of the neck and thyroid gland,
  • ultrasound of soft tissues (lumps, nodules, swelling),
  • ultrasound of the groin and scrotum (in boys),
  • ultrasound of the hips in infants (DDH screening – as indicated),
  • follow-up ultrasounds of known findings.

The scope of the examination is always adapted to the age of the child and specific problems.

When is a pediatric ultrasound recommended?

The examination is appropriate if:

  • the child has abdominal pain or recurring problems,
  • a lump, swelling, or enlarged lymph nodes appear,
  • there are suspicious findings in the urine or a urinary tract infection,
  • a congenital or known defect needs to be checked,
  • the pediatrician recommends further examination of unclear problems,
  • the parents want a gentle preventive examination.

How the examination is performed

  • The examination usually takes 5-15 minutes.
  • The child lies on a bed (smaller children may be held in their parent's arms).
  • The doctor places an ultrasound probe with gel on the area being examined.
  • The examination is painless and does not harm the child in any way.
  • The results are communicated immediately after the examination.

No special preparation is usually necessary (the doctor will explain any exceptions in advance).

Child-friendly approach

At the Vasmedic clinic, we emphasize:

  • a calm atmosphere
  • patient explanation of the examination process,
  • cooperation with parents,
  • minimizing the child's stress and fears.

The goal is to make the examination as pleasant an experience as possible.
