Papillomas
Papillomas are benign skin or mucosal growths that most often arise as a result of infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). They appear on the neck, armpits, face, genital area, and elsewhere on the body. Although they are not dangerous, they can be aesthetically disturbing or interfere with everyday life. At the Vasmedic clinic, we offer professional examinations and gentle removal of papillomas using modern methods, including laser treatment.
What are papillomas?
Papillomas are soft skin growths that vary in shape and size:
- they are usually stalk-shaped (a small protrusion on a thin stalk),
- they are usually flesh-colored to brownish in color,
- they most often form in areas where the skin is exposed to friction (neck, armpits, groin, under the breasts),
- they can also appear on mucous membranes (e.g., oral cavity, genital area).
Why do papillomas develop?
- HPV infection combined with weakened immunity,
- skin friction (e.g., in the armpits, under the breasts, between the thighs),
- hormonal changes,
- hereditary predisposition,
- age – more common in adults and older people
Are papillomas dangerous?
Not usually, but:
- they can be mechanically irritated (by clothing, jewelry, shaving),
- some types of HPV may be associated with the risk of malignant changes,
- they are aesthetically disturbing and can cause psychological discomfort,
- they multiply easily and new ones can appear.
Removal options at the Vasmedic clinic
We remove papillomas quickly, gently, and without scarring. We use:
- laser treatment – precise, gentle, and without bleeding,
- surgical removal (excision) – suitable for larger or more complicated papillomas,
- cryotherapy – freezing with liquid nitrogen.
In the case of suspicious growths, a histological examination can be performed.
Why treat papillomas in a timely manner?
- they multiply and spread easily,
- they can be mechanically injured and become inflamed,
- they are aesthetically unpleasant, especially in visible areas,
- professional removal is safe and leaves minimal traces.
