What are papillomas?

Papillomas are soft skin growths that vary in shape and size:

• they are usually stalk-shaped (a small protrusion on a thin stalk),
• they are usually flesh-colored to brownish in color,
• they most often form in areas where the skin is exposed to friction (neck, armpits,groin, under the breasts),
• they can also appear on mucous membranes (e.g., oral cavity, genital area).

Why do papillomas develop?

• HPV infection combined with weakened immunity,
• skin friction (e.g., in the armpits, under the breasts, between the thighs),
• hormonal changes,
• hereditary predisposition,
• age – more common in adults and older people

Are papillomas dangerous?

Not usually, but:

• they can be mechanically irritated (by clothing, jewelry, shaving),
• some types of HPV may be associated with the risk of malignant changes,
• they are aesthetically disturbing and can cause psychological discomfort,
• they multiply easily and new ones can appear.

• surgical removal (excision) – suitable for larger or more complicated papillomas,
• cryotherapy – freezing with liquid nitrogen.

In the case of suspicious growths, a histological examination can be performed.

Why treat papillomas in a timely manner?

• they multiply and spread easily,
• they can be mechanically injured and become inflamed,
• they are aesthetically unpleasant, especially in visible areas,
