Schedule a neurological examination if you suffer from:
- recurrent or intense headaches
- throbbing pain on one side of the head, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light/sound (typical migraine)
- tension in the forehead, neck, or crown
- headache that worsens with physical exertion
- sudden or unusual type of headache
- pain associated with impaired vision, speech, tingling, or weakness in the limbs
These symptoms may indicate migraine, tension headaches, but also more serious neurological causes that require examination.
- Migraine – a throbbing pain often associated with aura, nausea and hypersensitivity
- Tension headache – a dull, pressure-like pain caused by stress or muscle tension
- Cluster headache – an extremely severe, one-sided pain with eye symptoms
- Secondary headaches – due to another condition (e.g. herniated cervical disc, high blood pressure, inflammation)
- Detailed medical history – the neurologist will ask about the nature of the pain, its frequency, duration, triggers and accompanying symptoms
- Neurological examination – assessment of reflexes, sensitivity, balance and other functions
- Imaging methods – if necessary, we will recommend MRI, CT or EEG to exclude serious causes
- Keeping a pain diary – can help to more accurately determine the type of pain
Treatment with botulinum toxin type A is intended primarily for patients with:
- chronic migraine – i.e. headaches at least 15 days a month, of which at least 8 days are migraine-like
- insufficient response to classic preventive medications
- frequent occurrence of migraine with a significant impact on quality of life
Therapy is not intended for occasional headaches or tension headaches.
