Flat warts
Flat verrucas (flat warts) are small viral skin growths caused by HPV infection. They most often appear on the face, backs of the hands and, in children, on the limbs. They are inconspicuous, but they multiply and spread easily. At the Vasmedic clinic, we offer professional diagnostics and modern methods of their gentle removal, including laser treatment.
What are flat warts?
- small, smooth, flat growths on the skin,
- blending in with the surrounding skin (skin-colored to brownish),
- appearing in large numbers – often forming groups or clusters,
- typical in children, adolescents, and young adults,
- most common locations: face, hands, forearms, shins.
How do they develop?
Flat warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus is transmitted through skin contact or contaminated objects. The infection spreads easily through shaving, scratching, or skin injuries.
Are flat warts dangerous?
They are not dangerous to health, but:
- they spread easily to other areas,
- they are an aesthetic problem, especially on the face,
- they can multiply rapidly in children and adolescents.
Diagnosis and treatment at the Vasmedic clinic
Dermatologist will assess the nature of the growths and recommend a suitable method of removal:
- laser treatment – fast, gentle, with minimal risk of scarring,
- cryotherapy (freezing with nitrogen) – an effective method for smaller lesions,
- surgical removal (excision) – suitable for more resistant or larger growths,
- local therapy – special solutions or ointments as a supplement to the procedure.
Why treat flat warts?
- they tend to spread quickly.
- they can become inflamed or injured.
- they are often cosmetically disturbing.
- early removal is gentler and more effective.
