ECG monitoring

ECG monitoring is one of the most basic and most important heart examinations. This painless examination allows you to monitor the electrical activity of the heart muscle and detect arrhythmias, ischemic changes or other hidden heart problems in time. At Vasmedic, we offer a complete range of ECG examinations - from resting ECG to long-term Holter ECG monitoring.

Thanks to modern technology and experienced internists, you can be sure that your heart is being taken care of with the utmost care.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the electrical signals that occur during the heart's activity. Based on the waveform created by the device, the doctor evaluates the rhythm, frequency, and any deviations from normal.

While a resting ECG is performed in a few minutes in the office, ECG monitoring can last for 24–48 hours (called a Holter ECG) in order to detect short-term or irregular heart rhythm disturbances that may not be apparent during a short examination.

Types of ECG monitoring:

1. Resting ECG
A basic examination that takes a few minutes. Electrodes are attached to the chest, arms and legs, the device records the electrical activity of the heart and the doctor evaluates it. Suitable as part of a preventive internal examination.

2. Holter ECG (24-48 hours)
During Holter monitoring, the patient wears a small device that continuously records the heart's activity during normal daily activities and sleep.

This can reveal:

  • irregular arrhythmias
  • short-term ischemic changes,
  • unexplained dizziness, weakness or palpitations.

When is it appropriate to undergo ECG monitoring?

We recommend ECG monitoring especially in cases where:

  • you experience palpitations or heart palpitations,
  • suffer from frequent dizziness, unexplained fatigue or shortness of breath,
  • have chest pain or chest pressure,
  • are in a risk group (high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol),
  • are undergoing a preventive examination to prevent heart disease.

Prevention is the key to a healthy heart

Heart and vascular disease are among the most common causes of health problems and hospitalizations in the Czech Republic. Early diagnosis using ECG monitoring significantly increases the chance of successful treatment and long-term health maintenance. Therefore, we recommend ECG examinations not only for patients with difficulties, but also as part of regular preventive check-ups.

No. The electrodes only sense the heart's electrical impulses, they do not send any current into the body.

The recording itself takes about 1-2 minutes. Overall, with preparation, it usually takes under 10 minutes.

  • for chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, dizziness
